Before I begin telling you about tourism in Nicaragua, I will be presenting you with some facts about this country, both historical, geographical, and maybe a little political (but not much). It’s good to know something about a country and people you intend to visit. Instead of visiting a country and playing the part of the naïve tourist, you can be more open to a new culture and new things and will return from your holiday more enriched by the experience.

Since 1971, this has been the flag of Nicaragua. It is much like the flag of United Provinces of Central America. It consists of three horizontal strips of blue and white with an emblem in the center. The emblem in the center is surrounded by the circular path of the words “Republica de Nicaragua, America Central.” In the center of the emblem, a triangular shape features five volcanoes representing the five original member states of the United Provinces of Central America. Also within the emblem you will find the Cap of Liberty, a symbol for national freedom, with the sun rays and the rainbow representing a bright future for the people of Nicaragua.
