The Economy of Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and is considered a “recovering economy.”  This is due to a series of both natural and man-made disasters.  Natural disasters that have disabled the economy include a devastating earthquake in 1972 .  Man made disasters, the Nicaraguan Civil war and the years of political instability,  (and what is war, if not a disaster?), have also broken and weakened the economy of Nicaragua.

The Casa San Francisco Hotel

When I visited Granada I had lunch at the Casa San Franciso Hotel, Restaurant and Bar. The lunch was delightful and I checked around the hotel and it looks like another great hotel in Granada to stay at. The Casa San Francisco is owned by Terry Leary, Nancy and John Bergman. It is located at Desde el Convento de San Francisco, Calle Corral #207, in the centre of old Nicaragua, close to everything you would like to see in Granada.

Is Nicaragua Safe?

Many people ask if Nicaragua is a  safe place for traveling to.  There does not seem to be a great influx of tourists to the country because people fear that Nicaragua is still at war.  It’s not as if one hears about Nicaragua in the news frequently.  The last thing people heard about Nicaragua in the news was that it was at war.  However, Nicaragua’s war end in the late 1970s and has since become a peaceful democratic country.  Nicaragua’s tourist infrastructure is there, but it needs more time to …

Before I begin telling you about tourism in Nicaragua, I will be presenting you with some facts about this country, both historical, geographical, and maybe a little political (but not much). It’s good to know something about a country and people you intend to visit.
