The environmental impact of tourism, a rapidly growing industry for Nicaragua and the other nations of Central America is becoming increasingly obvious, but can seem somewhat remote to the individual tourist on vacation. The construction of resorts also contributes by destroying the habitats of the indigenous people and the natural environment.
By making a few changes, tourists collectively can leave less of a negative effect on the environment as they vacation ...

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and is considered a “recovering economy.” This is due to a series of both natural and man-made disasters. Natural disasters that have disabled the economy include a devastating earthquake in 1972 . Man made disasters, the Nicaraguan Civil war and the years of political instability, (and what is war, if not a disaster?), have also broken and weakened the economy of Nicaragua.
As a recovering economy, Nicaragua suffers from large foreign debt, high unemployment and low per capita income. The Nicaraguan ...

When I visited Granada I had lunch at the Casa San Franciso Hotel, Restaurant and Bar. The lunch was delightful and I checked around the hotel and it looks like another great hotel in Granada to stay at. The Casa San Francisco is owned by Terry Leary, Nancy and John Bergman. It is located at Desde el Convento de San Francisco, Calle Corral #207, in the centre of old Nicaragua, close to everything you would like to see in Granada.
This wonderful hotel in Granada is clean, with ...

Many people ask if Nicaragua is a safe place for traveling to. There does not seem to be a great influx of tourists to the country because people fear that Nicaragua is still at war. It’s not as if one hears about Nicaragua in the news frequently. The last thing people heard about Nicaragua in the news was that it was at war. However, Nicaragua’s war end in the late 1970s and has since become a peaceful democratic country. Nicaragua’s tourist infrastructure is there, but it needs more time to ...

Before I begin telling you about tourism in Nicaragua, I will be presenting you with some facts about this country, both historical, geographical, and maybe a little political (but not much). It’s good to know something about a country and people you intend to visit. Instead of visiting a country and playing the part of the naïve tourist, you can be more open to a new culture and new things and will return from your holiday more enriched by the experience.
Since 1971, this has been the flag of Nicaragua. ...

Catarina is a town near Masaya, Nicaragua which overlooks the Apoyo Lagoon. Catarina is famous for its plant growing nurseries due to the rich soil.
Near the Lake, you will find a small market place where you can buy local artisan crafts and souvenirs and restaurants. During the weekend, it’s a very popular place for families and friend to go – to the Apoyo Lagoon Viewpoint. The Apoyo Lagoon is actually a lake formed from an ancient volcano. You’ll get a great view here and be able to buy some souvenirs ...
