Before I begin telling you about tourism in Nicaragua, I will be presenting you with some facts about this country, both historical, geographical, and maybe a little political (but not much). It’s good to know something about a country and people you intend to visit. Instead of visiting a country and playing the part of the naïve tourist, you can be more open to a new culture and new things and will return from your holiday more enriched by the experience.

Volcanic Lake at Catarina

Catarina is a town near Masaya, Nicaragua which overlooks the Apoyo Lagoon.  Catarina is famous for its plant growing nurseries due to the rich soil.
Near the Lake, you will find a small market place where you can buy local artisan crafts and souvenirs and restaurants. During the weekend, it’s a very popular place for families and friend to go  – to the Apoyo Lagoon Viewpoint. The Apoyo Lagoon is actually a lake formed from an ancient volcano.  You’ll get a great view here and be able to buy some souvenirs …
