La Isla de Ometepe

La Isla de Ometepe or Ometepe Island is formed from two joined volcanoes that rise out of the center of Lake Nicaragua (Lake Cocibolca). One of these volcanoes, Conception Volcano, is active and the other volcano Maderas lies dormant.
Isla Ometepe has been inhabited since pre-Columbian times by the Nahuatl people and was considered a sacred place, steeped in legend and mystery. Nicaragua Travel Tours

I’ve been searching around for tours to Nicaragua so if you are interested in Nicaragua tours as your first introduction to Nicaragua, it’s a great way to go for the Nicaragua “newbie”.  I only managed to find three Nicaragua tours three from GAP Adventures, the Great Adventure People in the travel agencies.  It would seem that although Nicaragua is ready for tourism, travel companies have not yet jumped on board full force as they have with other destinations.  Even in talking with many people, their questions are, “Is Nicaragua safe?” …

Lake Nicaragua

Something you must not miss seeing on your tour of Nicaragua is its lake, Lake Nicaragua (Cocibolca), one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world, besides the Great Lakes in North America.  When I first saw the Lake, I thought it was the ocean because the water was rough and there were white caps on the waves.  It seems also that the early explorers thought it was the sea as well.  So I am not alone is my mistake.
